Copper Wire

Hi guys, does anyone no a good source for copper wire. I was wanting some for ournaments, I went to Home Depot and the stuff they had was too thin.

Mel, if you don't need a whole lot, check the electrical supply area for standard house and vehicle wire. You can get anything from 24 guage wire up to 8 guage, but will have to strip the insulation off, that's why I said if you don't need a lot.....how much wire stripping are you willing to do?. You might even pick some cut off scraps from a contractor.

Mel - if you're not set on copper and will settle for 'gold' (colored) check the craft section at Wal-Mart or Michaels. You'll find all gauges sold on spools......I think you'll find some thick enough.
In the jewelry making department of Michaels they're even selling wire in all colors.

electrical supply is the place to go...actally you can get wire up to 3 gauge! You will have to most likely take the insulation off, but thats not a big deal!

Don't they call #3 wire 'copper grounding rod'? hehehe

You can also buy wire all the way up to 00 at the Home Depot or Lowes, you can buy it any length you want, it is sold by the foot.

Mel, you didn't actually ever say what diameter wire you needed......there is bare ground wire avalable at the hardware and box stores, also. I believe in 16, 14, 12, 10 and maybe even 8 gua. That could save you some stripping, and probably a couple bucks to boot.

I use 24 gauge copper,red,green,black and gold wire for my ornaments and drill a small(can't remember the size)Hole in the top and glue the wire in. Use a nail in a vise,standing up and wrap my wire around the nail and twist several times to make an eyelet. Make the twist long enough to holdwhen glued. After that I use fishinh line long enough for the ornament to hang off tree.
