Default Christmas carvings

Here are my first Christmas related carvings. I had a few slabes of maple and a small length of ash to experiment with. The piece dove came from one of the magazines from carving illustrated. This is the first time painting my carvings so be gentle with your comments.

Now that is different on the middle picture. The hair, mustash and beard all different. I like it. Well, I like them all.

Well, they sure look good to me!

Especially the "Santa-spirit" in the middle. I really like the way that you did his beard with the gouging effect instead of the more "streamlined" v-gouged spirit beards. Definitely make's it a Santa!

Thank's for posting!

Geez Patrick, that's cool. I swear that center Santa/Spirit spoke to me! I'd better change medications!!!

Really, the spirit is awesome work, the eyes look so real, you keep expecting him to wink!

Thanks everyone. I didn't have anything specific in mind when I started carving the slab so that's why you see a hodge podge of pictures. The piece dove was something I also wanted to try...and quite simple really. If you think you recognize the santa like wood spirit its because it was the same peice I used for the small tutorial I did on carving a bushy mustache. I didn't like the stain on the ash so I decided to try painting it in the holiday colors.
