| | Christmas Can't be the only legitmate holiday I've been visiting and participating here now for about 7 months and it just hit me today that maybe this section of the message board should be labeled as Christmas Carving instead of holiday carving.
I enjoy carving santa's too.
However, I enjoy St. Patrick's day, Veterans Day, Labor Day, and the 4th of July. I know there is a big commercial push for carvings at Christmas but I would really like to see some more patterns, carvings, enthusiasm, and inspiration for the other holidays.
I thought as a gift to my children it would be memorable to carve something for each holiday. I encourage each of you to expand your holiday aspirations to encompass the rest of the forgotten holidays.

A carving for each holiday is a neat idea. I hope you don't mind if I steal the idea once I'm a little more proficient. Fortunately, my 4 kids are all still under 16 so I've got plenty of time before they start moving out. :-/

| | Re: Christmas Can't be the only legitmate holiday Seems like Santa and Christmas gets the most attention here, but if you'll check into some of these carvers' sites you'll find some superb Uncle Sams for the 4th of July, Easter Bunnies and Santos, (not Santas), Pilgrims for Thanksgiving, garden themes for summer, and even a few Father Times and New Years babies.
But you are right, it would be nice if some more of these were posted here so we could all get some ideas and inspiration!

| | | Re: Christmas Can't be the only legitmate holiday I couldn't agree more - I've often wondered why no other holidays seemed to bring out carving ideas around here. I keep my focus on Santas, of course, but I'd like to think they're not meant for Christmas, but for always - I know my guys aren't the only ones who tend to show up for 4th of July parties and Halloween goodies.
I, for one, would LOVE to see anyone's work in celebrating any holidays through carving. I just checked our Picturetrail site - yep, the album says 'HOLIDAY' carvings, nothing at all about Christmas. So git yer butts in there and show us what you've got!

| | Re: Christmas Can't be the only legitmate holiday I am drawing a Fireman for my son and maybe it will be done by the 4th of July. Outside of our brave soldiers, Fireman are the most patriot. Well maybe them and Policeofficers. Have all three in the family. My son is FD 17 and will put that in somewhere. Did find a neat pattern on carvingpatterns.com where the author did woodburning and then he done a relief carving of the same pattern. I am trying to make it where the fireman is actually in the fight and has his face shield down. Maybe get accomplish.Just started a Bark Carving and even though it is very easy to work with, easily lift layers when you don't want to. Definitely learning on this one.
Regards all. |

Your site is a great way for getting into the holiday mood! You've got some very creative ideas there.
I'm not sure I'm ready for summer to be over, but I guess I should start planning a Halloween carving now.
