Default Carving Double

I have a carving friend who always carved two of each project he worked on. Said that the second piece was a bit easier to do and turned out better. At the December Dave Sabol seminar, I decided I would carve two of this Santa with Rudolf project. I (nearly) finished carving the first piece at the seminar and finished the second during the holidays. I still need to paint these guys, but it was worth the effort. I also found it easier to do the second Santa. When finished, I will keep one and give the other to Mom!

Fine job on the Old Saint Nicks. I have to agree with you that the second carving seems easier and goes faster than the first. If you're like me, I always find a better way of doing things the second time around. I guess it's true what they say, practice makes perfect.

Gary, Good work on the Santas. I took one of Dave seminars at CCA last year and found myself lost. Those things are hard to carve at least for me. I prefer working from a roughout or a cutout. It seemed to me like David's style is design as you go, as well as make the cutout and carve it at the same time ;O). I really like Dave's work, I just can't seem to get the hang of his style of carving. Please let us see yours after painting. Thanks,
Jim OH

Very nice Gary! You did a great job of carving on those two. For my next carving I think I'll do 10 at a time. You see, I already know what the first several will look like. But now maybe I've found a way to get an acceptable carving.....You think it works like that? Thanks for sharing those two little Santas.
