Default Carve a Christmas Tree ??

Hi all,

Can anyone refer me to an example of how to carve a Christmas tree as a small decoration or possibly a hanging ornament.

I've experiement a bit and am having trouble figuring out how to depict branches and get the right look. My efforts seem to look like a teepee with a bunch of gouges in it.... Sad

Thanks,
Mike

I always start from a square block. Pencil in an x on the top and bottom. The intersection is the center of the block Start working off the corners until it is somewhat round not perfectly round but close. then from the top of the tree start carving toward the center of the x. Start working the taper toward the bottom but dont always go to the very bottom. This will keep it from becoming a triangle (teepee look). Check out the Woody01Santa post in the holiday section. Go down to the post by Nancy G and look at the picture posted of Woodys Santas. Take a good look at the trees they are great. Hope this helps a little!

Make deep stop cuts all the way around at the intervals you wnat each set of branches to be. then make a scooping cut from the bottom of each interval to the bottom of the next interval leaving a somewhat of a trunk where one interval meets the next. Then go back with a v-gouge and have some fun making some splits.
