Yesterday I had the honor of getting a phone call from the very well known & respected Santa carver, Ron Ransom! After writing him a letter a couple weeks ago, telling him how much I love his books (thank you Nancy G for the CORRECT address!), he emailed me. That in itself was a great surprise! Since then we've exchanged some light-hearted emails and I ordered 4 more books, all with personal notes on them. I gotta hand it to this message board, I've really met some great people. And little did I know 7 years ago, when I borrowed my first Ron Ransom Santa carving book from the library, that someday I'd be talking to the man on the phone! Really, really neat. For all the newbies or those who aren't familiar with Ron's work, his books are excellent for new carvers, showing close-ups pictures of specific cuts and easy-to-follow directions. Jillsy |

Jillsy, that is so neat. The first santa, in fact my first real carving, was a Ron Ransom pattern. Think it's called "The morning after", not sure on that.

Hey, Jillsy, that's cool that he called you. It was also very nice of you to take the time to write him in the first place. Let's see some of the Ron Ransom Santa's that you have carved! ~ Joy

Hey Joy, A while ago I posted some Ron Ransom carvings in the gallery, of Santa holding a Noah's Ark. At the time, I was thrilled with them. Now looking at them I see how much I've progressed! Remember Newbies, hold on to some of your first carvings. Although they may be crude, in a few years they'll still probably be your favorites! Jillsy |

I agree that was really cool Jillsy, I even started out with Ron Ramson books when I did my first Santa's. He was a great inspiration to me also. I don't have any of his carvings anymore (darn relatives). But if it were'nt for Ron I don't think there would be as many Santa carvers as there is now. Mel |

That's so neat. Many of my earlier santas were done from Ron's books--I think I have 3-4 of them. Lucky you to have made contact with him and have the chance to visit. Donna T

What a nice surprise Jillsy... Curtis started out with Ron Ransom's books and when he started teaching our Grandson.. I bought Ron's books for him. They are great books for beginners... Charlotte
