Default Big Cypress Knee

All you Cypress knee carvers might be interested in this Santa. He is 5 ft. 8 in. tall. I found this knee in a guy's front yard as I was driving by and stopped and asked if he was for sale. He said "Well you wouldn't give $20.00 for him would you?" The carving was minimal and the beautiful texture on his coat was created by bark beetles.( I think). It actually took Mary 3 times as long to paint this big fella as it did me to carve it. Painted with oils as usual.

Wow Doug, that's some cypress knee what a find! I like the santa and the little lady did a terrific job on the painting. How many oil tubes did she go threw?

That's great! Biggest one I've ever seen. Painting it must have been fun for her too.

Wow, that is a big knee, are you planning on adding carvings do it in the future. I think it would be neat to put pockets on it with toys. What a great knee

Default Re: Big Cypress Knee-Pockets?

I can't put pockets on it for a couple of reasons, first that thing was completely rotted out on the inside when I found it and the wall thickness varies from about 3" in the thickest place down to 1/4" in the thinnest place. In fact, as big as it is it only weighs about 20 pounds. The other reason is that it has been sold. I might add that it was a pain to get it into the right positions to carve due to it's sheer bulk. Don't want another one this large but it would be hard to pass up if I did find one.

Got enough problems with the knees I have let alone one that big.

Seriously Doug, Outstanding Santa and the little bride painting it. Thanks for sharing that great find.
