I love the decoration on his hat. He's a really nice carving.
I think maybe some of the driftwood is really hard because of possibly being in the water for maybe hundreds of years or longer. I've found lots of driftwood that I thought was redwood roots, because of the color, but after reading about the bogwood in Europe, I wonder if some of this wood is the equivalent to that and maybe some kind of hardwood instead. Whenever the rivers rage here in the winter, pieces will wash up on the beaches and the river shores and some of it is almost as hard as a rock.
