Hey everyone, since I started this thread and see that there is a lot of interest already, I want to take the lead and get things started. I would love to see Trebor56 at least do the exchange, but I understand if he doesn't.

So.....It is officially began. The 2011 Christmas Ornament Exchange is underway.

I will send a PM to everyone that has already shown interest on this thread to this point. Everyone else that wants to get involved, please send me a PM with your Name, Mailing Address, and I would like to know what type of ornament you plan to make. If you haven't decided, that is not a problem. Just thinking in advance that if we get a ton of response, we might break it down by type of ornament in some way when we divide up into smaller groups if needed. Just a thought, nothing set in stone on that issue.

Let's set the deadline for showing intent to be involved on November 1st so we can have our lists of people to mail to completed. The deadline for placing the ornaments in the mail will be December 1st, so that everyone can receive their ornaments in time to display them on your Christmas tree if you like.

So to summarize, if you want to participate, you will send your Name, Mailing Address and what type of ornament that you plan to make (only if you have decided) to me in a PM by November 1st. I will divide up the names into reasonable groups (probably 8 to 12 per group) to keep things in hand. The lists of your group will then be sent to you after they are compiled in the first part of November so you know who and where to send your ornament too. Mail you ornaments out postmarked no later than December 1st.

I am already anxious to see what kind of response we get. There is no experience requirements. If you have carved for one week or 35 years, you are encouraged to participate.

Thanks,
Adam (ten99j4)

We have 12 interests counting myself. I have two confirmations so far. If you already posted on the thread, you should have gotten a message from me about your information. If not, please PM me with your info.

When I got the magazine, I told my wife "Look my carving made it in the magazine!" I don't think she was as impressed when she saw it was the size of a grain of rice, I still thought it was pretty cool!
I really wish I could participate again this year, but I just won't have the time. Have fun with it!

For the last two or three years I've thought it would be great to get involved in this project. I'd love to exchange ornaments with forum members..........but.............The cost of mailing something like that is near highway robbery up here in Canada. Each year I carve an ornament for the Childrens Wish Foundation Tree that Chipping Away sponsors, and the cost of mailing it within Canada is $10.00+ (yes a 3" ornament). If I were to participate in this exchange and we were divided into groups of 12 that's still in excess of $120.00 for postage alone.
I'm open to any suggestions as to how I'd get around this....... (legally that is) Dmatias : How did you go about mailing out carvings for the mini friendship cane? was there some way to avoid all those postage costs ?

Soggy; I cheated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got my son to mail them when he went on business down in the states, yes, even the ones that were to go to people here in Canada. It saved me a fortune, total of $14.00 instead of the $84.00 for the 12 I had to mail.

................That got me to thinking;..........maybe if I participate I can "bulk mail" my carvings to one of our U.S. members and have them repost them from there. That would cut the postage cost by quite a bit,. as I would only have the one large parcel at the mercy of Canada .
I'll see if I can set something up..............

Wayne, At the risk of inviting the black SUV's following me around, here's what I'd do. Get an agreement with one exchange member on this side, to include one of your ornaments with theirs when they mail. Course, like you say, you'd have to mail one package of all your ornaments to the participant on this side. Normally it would cost, say about $1.50 to send one ornament here. Add one more and it may increase the cost by $.50. My guess, but you get the idea.

................Ain't got to worry about them black SUV's............ at least up here. With the price of gas they wouldn't be able to follow you very far.

Tom that's more or less what I was thinking of doing; I'm going to think on it for a while and then I'll PM someone to see if it can be worked out.
Thanks
Wayne
